Yes, all staff and volunteers undergo a Federal Bureau of Investigation background check as well as one through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

All teachers and staff and the director are CPR/First Aid certified.

Each class and playground have a first aid kit available for immediate use when needed.  There is also first aid supplies and safety items located in the Directors office as well.  Additionally, a CPR defibrillator with pediatric specific pads is located on campus.

Yes, each staff member receives pre-service training on first aid prior to working with children.  Staff then are trained in CPR and First Aid with licensed trainer within 30 days of hire.

Yes, in order to administer a prescription medication at school we must have a plan of care completed and signed by both the parent and child’s physician.  This plan details permission, instructions on administration as well as length of time for the medicine to be given.  Any over the counter medications can only be given if the parent and physician have completed the medication portion of the general health appraisal form or submitted a specific note or medication administration form to the director.

Yes, special lotions, chap stick, etc. can be sent but must be kept out of reach of children with the teacher and/or director.  If it is prescribed by a doctor it must come with a note signed by the physician and parent just like any other medication.  

Our facility takes safety and security very seriously.  All access doors to the facility are locked at all times and visitors must be accompanied by the director or another staff member when in the building.  Each family has a specific pin number to gain access to the center.  We have an emergency preparedness plan in place that all staff is trained on annually to ensure proper knowledge of all safety and security procedures.  Our facility is equipped with security cameras that surveillance each classroom and shared common hallway 24 hours a day.

Yes, fire drills are conducted monthly and other safety drills including lockdown and offsite evacuation drills are conducted quarterly.

Each classroom has daily procedures to ensure a sanitary classroom and to help minimize the spread of illness.  The tables and/or trays are sanitized with a water and bleach solution after each use.  All toys and materials are sanitized and sprayed at the end of each day.  Teachers clean the classrooms each day by mopping and vacuuming the floors, wiping down all surfaces, spraying toys and running all contaminated items through the sanitation cycle in the dishwasher.  Additionally, furniture and toys are professional steam cleaned once a year.  In order to prevent illness, children who become ill at school are removed from the population immediately and sent home until they are 24 hours symptom free.   A doctor’s note is required to return after an illness as well to ensure the child has been seen by a physician and cleared to return to school.

State Regulation 7.702.63 requires that there be daily observation of each child on arrival to the school by a person capable of recognizing common signs of communicable diseases or other evidence of ill health.  A child who is ill upon arrival shall not be admitted or shall be separated from other children until the parent or guardian can pick up the child.
 
According to Colorado State Licensing, if a child displays the following symptoms, they MUST be kept at home.

• Fever over 100.5
• Diarrhea (more than one)
• Nasal drainage that is thick, yellow or green and accompanied by a fever
• Sore throat with fever or throat spots
• Cough accompanied by fever
• Chills
• Coughing up of green or yellow mucous
• Eye drainage of any type
• Unusual rashes

 
We cannot allow a child to attend school with any of the symptoms listed above unless they have been seen by a physician to rule out infection and we have received written permission from the physician for the child to return to school.

The child may return to school after illness when:

• Fever has been broken for 24 hours (without aid of fever reducing medicine)
• Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea has subsided for 24 hours
• At least 3 doses of antibiotic have been given over a 24-hour period for any type of strep or bacterial infection

 We immediately notify parents or legal guardians when their child becomes ill, is involved in an accident or is injured and requires emergency medical care while at school.
