Food & Nutrition
The Vail Child Development Center does not provide food for the children. We understand that nutrition is a vital component in a child’s early development and want to encourage and empower our families to provide their preferences for their child’s diet. We support healthy eating and have resources to help families offer beneficial, wholesome options for both the child’s lunch and snacks each day.
FAQs

Yes, parents are welcome to provide breastmilk for their children. It must be brought in the bottle labeled with the child’s first and last name. It cannot be delivered in a bag or any avenue that must be transferred to a bottle per the health and sanitation department. Bottles cannot be reused so enough bottles for the day must be provided.
Accommodations are made on an individual basis to ensure health and safety of children with food allergies. All staff are trained and apprised of allergy information, so they are all aware of the child’s restrictions and needs. Food restrictions can be put on the specific classroom the child is in if necessary and requested by the parent. Any or all medications needed for the allergy can be kept on site in the director’s office or in the first aid kit in the classroom if it is an emergency medicine.
Of course, children with peanut allergies are always welcome. The specific classroom the child is enrolled in would become a peanut free zone to ensure their health and safety. All center staff would be notified and trained on this student’s allergy, so all are aware of the child’s needs and restrictions.
Our teachers sit with the children during meal times to observe their food choices and encourage eating of healthy food first, saving desserts and treats for afternoon snack time. Teachers also model healthy eating habits as well as proper table manners and etiquette. They carry on conversations with the children throughout meals to teach social interaction and appropriate behavior for family style meal time.
